Black Visions Collective

Black Visions Collective (BLVC) believes in a future where all Black people have autonomy, safety is community-led, and we are in right relationship within our ecosystems.

Reclaim The Block

We have called on the Minneapolis City Council to become these visionary leaders by pledging to defund the Minneapolis Police Department and invest in the resources that really keep us safe and healthy, especially in Black communities, Indigenous communities and communities of color. We have called on them to commit to the following by Saturday, May 30th at 8am:

Black Lives Matter Official Ways to Help

A hub outlined by the official Black Lives Matter organization providing suggestions for how to help through donations, signing petitions, making calls, sending emails, information for protestors, and maps of protests.

Where to Donate

The Justice Fund

Local grassroots organizations led by people of color are doing year round organizing on the issues their communities care about like justice reform, immigration, environmental justice, education, and housing. They engage in the important local elections for district attorney, sheriff, and judges that determine whether racist police are charged, whether cash bail is upheld, and whether immigrant families are torn apart. These groups are positioned to capture the energy and urgency of the moment and turn it into real political power and structural change. We've built a portfolio so you can invest in many of the most effective organizations with a single gift.

Communities United Against Police Brutality

Communities United Against Police BrutalityTM is a Twin-Cities based organization that was created to deal with police brutality on an ongoing basis. We work on the day-to-day abuses as well as taking on the more extreme cases. Our overriding goal is to create a climate of resistance to abuse of authority by police organizations and to empower local people with a structure that can take on police brutality and actually bring it to an end. We provide support for survivors of police brutality and families of victims so they can reclaim their dignity and join the struggle to end police brutality.

No New Jails NYC

No New Jails NYC formed in September 2018, shortly after the Mayor launched the formal land-use approval process for the jail expansion plan. A direct continuation of the grassroots efforts to close Rikers immediately, No New Jails NYC also draws on the success of previous of jail construction fights in NYC.

Committee to Protect Journalists

Since May 26, more than 300 press freedom violations are reported nationwide by journalists covering demonstrations against the death in Minneapolis police custody of George Floyd, according to data collected by the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, of which CPJ is a founding partner. CPJ calls on local authorities across the country to instruct police not to target journalists and to exempt media from curfew restrictions. CPJ's board of directors writes a rare letter, calling on local authorities to let journalists do their jobs safely and to hold attackers to account.

Justice For Breoona

Breonna Taylor was an award-winning EMT and first responder in Lousiville, KY, who loved helping her patients and her community. “She was an essential worker. She had to go to work,” her mother, Tamika Palmer said of her dedication to standing on the frontlines of this pandemic. “She didn’t have a problem with that.”

Breonna survived the frontlines of a pandemic that disproportionately kills Black people, only to have her life stolen by police. Learn more about how you can support and take action to get justice for Breonna Taylor.

Each day, tens of thousands of LGBTQ people are held in jail or immigration detention because they cannot afford bail—for immigration status or charges like sleeping in public.

With your help, the Freedom Fund posts bail to secure their release and safety.

In tandem, we raise awareness of the epidemic of LGBTQ over-incarceration. We strive towards a critical mass against mass detention.

Emerge America

Emerge is changing the face of politics to create an inclusive democracy. We are the nation's premier organization that recruits, trains and provides a powerful network to Democratic women who want to run for office.

The German Marshall Fund on Achieving Political Inclusion

Political inclusion is essential in order to sustain and strengthen our democracies. In this light, it is always an honor and inspiration for me and for the GMF team to convene and connect the powerful, rising diverse generation of political leaders who come together from both sides of the Atlantic through GMF’s leadership programs.

Legislation to Pass

The Blueprint for Law Enforcement Reform Policies via Black O.P.T.S.

The Blueprint, posted to the new Black Opportunities movement’s website www.blackopportunities.com is a policy platform to reform failed statutes and regulations to
begin the long march of reform to a more civil and just society. Black Lives Matter is a global movement that successfully focused attention on state-sanctioned violence and anti-Black racism. The new Black Opportunities movement offers the next step on the path to Black liberation by providing educational and empowerment opportunities while preparing and training Black people to protect their own communities.

Policy Solutions via Campaign Zero

Police usually investigate and decide what, if any, consequences their fellow officers should face in cases of police misconduct. Under this system, fewer than 1 in every 12 complaints of police misconduct nationwide results in some kind of disciplinary action against the officer(s) responsible. Communities need an urgent way to ensure police officers are held accountable for police violence.

Law Enforcement Action Partnership (L.E.A.P.)

The Law Enforcement Action Partnership’s mission is to unite and mobilize the voice of law enforcement in support of drug policy and criminal justice reforms that will make communities safer by focusing law enforcement resources on the greatest threats to public safety, promoting alternatives to arrest and incarceration, addressing the root causes of crime, and working toward healing police-community relations.

Sample Script For Calling for George

From Dawn Alexander

While spending the day looking for a petition to sign and numbers to call to get justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Aubrey I found some sites have numbers that may not work or disconnect you. I suggest people find out the names of the Police Commissioners and Attorney Generals in Louisville, Minneapolis & Georgia. Google their offices and find direct lines. I googled Keith Ellison, Attorney General involved in the murder of George Floyd, after the original number I had was disconnected automatically. I was able to leave a message with a live person.

Office of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison

Tel: (651) 296-3353 (Twin Cities Calling Area) or (800) 657-3787 (Outside the Twin Cities)

(800) 627-3529 (Minnesota Relay)

Calls are answered Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  They often experience lower call volumes between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 and 4:30 p.m., so calling during these times may reduce the chance of any wait time.

Hello, My name is ______________ I want to leave a message for Keith Ellison in regards to the case of George Floyd.

I am calling for the arrests of the remaining 3 officers in the murder of George Floyd. I want Attorney General Keith Ellison to know that these arrests would send a clear message that he is indeed looking for justice in this case.  For these remaining officers to still be free despite their involvement in violent crime caught on film while protesters are being arrested for speaking out is an outrage.

Please do better to fight these injustices for our communities.

Thank you.

United We Dream

https://m4bl.org/week-of-action/

With all actions, there are a variety of risks and roles. All roles are important, and this moment is no different. In the last three months, 100,000 people in the United States have died of COVID-19, and Black people are dying disproportionately. As we move into collective and community action, we have to learn the risks involved, and how to keep ourselves and our communities safe. There is no one right way to take action. Do what you can from where you can. Power building takes many shapes. Thanks for joining us.

The Movement For Black Lives, and organizers mobilizing across the country, invite take part in a week of action June 1st to 7th in defense of Black lives. This is an opportunity to uplift and fight alongside those turning up in the streets and online. By Friday, after a week of taking action together, we will have flexed our collective muscle and built power nationwide.
